A New Social Contract for Higher Education


In the past decade, colleges and universities have begun to function more as profit-driven corporations than as non-profit educational institutions. Work by Croatan Institute researches has helped hold universities accountable for excessive compensation, conflicts of interest, town-gown tensions, and obscure endowment investments. This work has begun to define the terms of a new social contract for higher education that would place college's public purpose above private interests.
