In Memoriam: Dolly H. Gray-Bussard (1943-2020)
The Institute mourns the loss of our founding Board Treasurer Dolly Gray-Bussard, who passed away at her home in Santa Fe, New Mexico, on August 18, 2020, after a long battle with cancer. She was 77 years old. With her late husband, the physicist Dr. Robert W. Bussard, Dolly co-founded the Energy/Matter Conversion Corp. (EMC2), a firm that pursued energy breakthroughs from low-cost solar and nuclear fusion. She served as president of the company and a named inventor on a patented "Method and Apparatus for Controlling Charged Particles."
In addition to serving on Croatan Institute's Board of Directors and contributing generously to the Fern B. Jones Memorial Fellowship, she served on the boards of many other cultural and educational organizations, including the New Mexico Center for the Book, the Aspen Santa Fe Ballet, the Foundation for the Santa Fe Community College, and Literacy Volunteers of Santa Fe, and she provided major support to other groups such as SITE Santa Fe, the New Mexico Community Foundation, Creativity for Peace, the School for Advanced Research, and Washington College, among many others.
