Investing for Impact
A Snapshot of EGA Members’ Leveraged Investment Strategies
Foundations are increasingly recognizing the limitations of paying out the required five percent of their assets in the form of grants while leaving the other 95 percent invested in ways largely disconnected from their philanthropic mission. As a result, interest in responsible investing has been growing over the last several years, with investment managers and consultants rising to meet the growing demand from mission-driven institutional investors. This preliminary study of Environmental Grantmakers Association (EGA) members demonstrates that foundations have begun to use asset-based investment strategies to advance their philanthropic missions more fully.
