Fully Leveraging Philanthropic Capital for Environmental Change
In addition to grant-making, foundations can employ endowment capital to advance philanthropic goals. Many foundations have begun mobilizing financing through program-related investments, as well as developing creative, more fully leveraged philanthropic strategies, from investing in “double-bottom-line” enterprises to actively voting proxies in companies they own to joining with other shareholders in investor coalitions and networks of mutual concern.
