Special Assistant to the President
Rebecca Clendenin recently joined Croatan Institute’s staff as Special Assistant to the President, bringing more than 10 years of experience in supporting executives in the nonprofit and for-profit sectors. She also serves as Team Support with StoryDriven, an 8-time Emmy Award winning visual storytelling firm in downtown Durham. A mother to two rambunctious boys, professionally, Rebecca is a veteran nonprofit communications professional, having served as the Director of Communications for two of North Carolina’s leading child-serving nonprofits, Action for Children North Carolina (NC Child) and Communities In Schools of North Carolina. Rebecca is a graduate of Vanderbilt University and earned a master’s in nonprofit communications from UNC-Chapel Hill’s School of Media & Journalism as a Roy H. Park Fellow. In her spare time, Rebecca enjoys traveling the world, hiking, camping and helping resettle refugees through World Relief Durham. She also loves spending time with her family and neighbors in the Solterra Cohousing Community in western Durham. On the side, Rebecca is pursuing a personal passion—becoming a certified childbirth educator. She looks forward to the day she can journey alongside expectant couples as they confidently prepare for labor, delivery and postpartum chaos.
