Place-Based Perspectives on Conservation Finance & Forestry

October 2020

Croatan Fellow John Fenderson leads a discussion on conservation finance for sustainable forestry with leaders from across the country, including Peter Stein of Lyme Timber, a national timberland investment firm; Amrita Vatsal of Ecotrust Forest Management, a forestland investment manager working primarily on the west coast; and Olivia Watkins, steward of an agroforestry farm in North Carolina and founder of the Black Farmer Fund. Each speaker provides place-based perspectives on the use of impact investing and conservation finance techniques at various scales and the state of forest certification systems and natural resource markets focused on carbon, ecosystem services, and other forest products, and the impacts of climate change on forest management and resiliency.
