REEFS: Racial Equity Economics Finance Sustainability
To grow opportunities in Black and Brown communities, significant long-term investments are necessary.
July 2020
Sharlene Brown, Senior Fellow of Croatan Institute and Director of the Institute’s initiative on Racial Equity, Economics, Finance, and Sustainability (REEFS) leads a conversation with Bill Bynum, CEO of Hope Credit Union, and Jim King, CEO and President of Fahe, to discuss structural inequalities in persistent poverty. Today 20 million people live in persistent poverty counties of which 60% of the population are people of color. This discussion will help impact investors, funders, and practitioners better understand the notions of persistent poverty, structural exclusion and explore misconceptions about the face of rural poverty.
To grow opportunities in Black and Brown communities, significant long-term investments are necessary.
