Alice Ammerman

Dr. Ammerman is the Mildred Kaufman Distinguished Professor in the Department of Nutrition, Gillings School of Global Public Health, and Director of the Center for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention (a CDC Prevention Research Center) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Her research focuses on the design, testing, implementation, and dissemination of innovative clinical and community-based nutrition and physical activity interventions for health promotion in primarily low-income communities and with people of color. Current projects focus on adaptation of the Mediterranean diet (Med-South) for the southeastern US, behavioral economics, school nutrition, the interface between healthy food access and local food systems, and social entrepreneurship as a sustainable  approach to addressing public health concerns.
