Athena Owirodu is an Analyst at Croatan Institute, where she focuses on research within the Racial Equity, Economics, Finance, and Sustainability project (REEFS). She also is a contributor to the Data for Social Change project, created by the Institute for Development Impact, working to capture institutional responses to racial inequity and quantify collected results into a robust historical archive. She has strong quantitative research experience in demography and health through work at her university’s Population Research Center, and she also served as a research mentor to other students. As a data science fellow at Correlation One, she is developing skills to apply methods from data analytics, AI and machine learning to projects in the finance and non-profit sector. 

Athena holds a high commitment to service and equity through her previous roles as an admissions student recruiter and honors program ambassador. She currently serves on her alma mater’s Alumni Advisory Board, reaching out to underrepresented students applying to four year universities across the nation. 

As a recent graduate from the University of Texas at Austin, she holds a Bachelors of Science and Arts in Biochemistry with a minor in Sociology. Originally from North Texas, Athena enjoys reading, kayaking, and learning about new cultures, personal finance, & data science.
